How Exchanging Links with Other Sites Improves Your Own

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Business websites are a necessity in today’s society and the internet is only as good as its links. Without links, the internet simply would not be able to exist. To ensure a quality World Wide Web continues, you must provide links that your customers might be interested in. Linking to other sites helps tell the customers which products you use and trust. It also forms a bond of trust between you and other sites. Moreover, it can improve your own site by associating with other products that customers both know and trust and by giving you an increased level of visibility. There are two kinds of links you should include in your site. You should include a general links section for the benefit of your customers, and you should include a reciprocal links section to help you and other businesses as well as your customers.

There are several ways to decide which general links to include in your site. You might start by visiting competitor’s web sites. Check out their links section to understand what sites they provide links for. This might help you figure out what your customers are looking for. It might also provide you with a good base for a reciprocal linking system, which will be discussed in the next lesson.

Another way to decide what general links to include in your site is to consult with your customers. Internet-savvy customers will be able to tell you what they look for in a professional site and what they like and do not like about your links. This can help you control the quality of your links section. You could do this through a survey or by simply informally interviewing your clientele.

Be sure to provide general links that have a high page rank with internet search engines. This will increase your web traffic. You can do this by typing a key phrase in a search engine and look at the highest ranked pages that match your results.

General links are great, but reciprocal links are an essential part to the promotion of your website. You have a strong site that offers your quality product and you want people to know about your site. To make sure that you get the traffic you need, you must have other sites directed toward yours with links.

This process is fairly simply, but there are many ways to engage in reciprocal linking.

First, research the sites you might want to link to. You might start this process by making two lists. First, list the sites you think your customers might be interested in. For now, just write, you can consider narrowing your list down at a later time. Next, create a list of sites that would benefit your site. You can then compare the two lists and see what they have in common. Compile a list of common subjects, and list out three key words to fit with each subject.

After the research phase, it is time to go online. Find a Meta search engine and input all three words for each subject. Any site that comes back with all three keywords should be high on your priority list.

Once you’ve done that, it is time to start sifting through your results. Bookmark any sites that look promising.

When you’ve made your final choices, it is time to draft a letter to the webmaster of each site you’re considering. Get to the point quickly and sell your site to them. Do not follow up if your original letter was not responded to.

The final step in this process is to negotiate the link and location in terms of both sites. As soon as possible, get their link on your site and send them a note letting them now you have a live link to their site. Check their site frequently to ensure they are upholding their promise to you as well.

The entire process of choosing links and reciprocal links increases your visibility to customers. Not only will they be able to find you through the use of a search engine, they will now be able to find you through the use of other websites. This can mean nothing but good things for you and your website.

How to Use Sponsor Ads to Increase Website Traffic

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

How many times have you surfed the Internet and noticed that most e-zines and websites have advertisements posted all around its pages? Flashing ads that are popping up and blocking your view are often hard to get rid of. Even some search engines and directories carry sponsor ads. Sometimes those sponsor ads can get in the way, but sometimes the ad appears too tempting not to check. If it was not for those sponsor ads, you might not have realized a specific business or website existed.

The two primary goals of sponsor ads are to increase awareness of a product, brand, or business and to enhance the image of the business or brand. These goals are very important to the success of small businesses and their websites. In order to strive, small businesses need to spread the word on what products and services they have to offer in order to increase their profits. They also need to stay in communication with customers and potential customers to what they have and why you need it. This may even mean they have to send out an emailed newsletter. People like to know what is out there that they can benefit from. To achieve these two primary goals, consider using sponsor ads to increase the traffic to your website.

Using sponsor advertising can be a great way to increase traffic to your website and encourage more product and services purchases. It will also depend on where your business stands financially and how much you plan to advertise or invest in advertising.

Sponsor ads can offer many different advantages to both the sponsor and the website. The sponsor may be able to benefit as attitudes that are more promising evolve with trust, leadership, credibility, and enhanced customer service. When the sponsor or website is able to develop good customer relationships, this may prompt the sales to grow faster. Customers want to know they can depend on a business for their wants and needs. Customers want reliability and outstanding customer service. The business website can benefit by providing secure, updated information at no charge to the customer. Visitors may also see the website as more active and responsive to their interests and therefore develop a kind of relationship with the website.

E-zines offer great sponsor ads that will be of benefit to your website. There are varieties of E-zines from which to choose.  It is important to make sure you choose the ones that compliment your website or that have similar content. Making your website business available to the world and easy to find is the best way to increase the traffic to your website.

You have a purpose for having a website, so why not use every opportunity to promote your website and reap the profits. It is up to you to use sponsor ads and be the next flashing, pop up, blocking your view, hard to get rid of advertisement online. You want to be that online advertisement that gets in the way and that is so tempting, others just have to check it out. Once you increase the awareness of your product, brand, or business, you can generate more traffic to your website and receive a Return on Investment (ROI) to make all your hard work worth all your time and effort.

Increase Website Traffic with Links to Your Website

Monday, June 6th, 2011

The sole purpose for having your own website is for having people visit it. In order for people to know that your website exists, you must advertise to show the online community who you are, what you do and what you can do for them. Advertising your website to create more website traffic is possible by having a number of links to your website posted through other sites of similar interests. Nowadays having a top quality website is necessary for small businesses and promoting your website to increase the traffic can make or break you. After all, you do not create a website for it to just to sit there and have no one look at it. The purpose of having a website is for optimal viewing.

If you want to increase website traffic with links to your website, there are a few things you can do. Since most of the web traffic generally comes from directories and search engines such as Yahoo!, Google, Dog Pile, and Ask Jeeves, you can register your website with many of the most popular search engines to ensure you are web site is found in searches. Although some search engines can find your web site on their own, it is best to submit an eye catching, detailed listing yourself to increase your chances. The more directories and search engines you register your website to, the more your chances increase of traffic from the online community.

You can create a sign up list for those visitors who visit your web site and want to receive email newsletters about your site. Creating a mailing list for Internet newsletters is a great way to keep in touch with your web site visitors and to offer special promotions or send weekly or monthly news and updates. People like to be abreast of what is going on with your website and they like to receive special promotions that can drive them back to your website to make a purchase of products or services. When creating a sign up list, a visitor must request information sent to their email address, therefore avoiding the pitfalls of spam. No one likes spam emails; regardless of whether it is, a product that you think might interest them or not.

Message boards, chat rooms and other forums with subjects relating to your web site work as great ways to promote your site. Although you should never directly advertise on any of these forums, you can make your presence known and make yourself available to answer questions and build up your credibility. You can also include your signature file at the end of your posts. Using a signature file with all your contact information and a link to your website in every email and forum post is a great way to increase traffic to your website as well.

Everyone loves freebies. Promotional freebies can encourage traffic to your website that can be of considerable value. By offering freebies related to your target audience such as software, downloadable forms, consultation, newsletters, articles and other resources full of valuable information, you can draw people in. You may also consider a sweepstakes, where an entrant must sign up for the newsletter in order to enter into the sweepstakes.

Buying ad space on more successful websites in the same field as yours can also increase website traffic with links to your website. There are many websites with ad space available at affordable rates. You can also choose to place your ad within a search engine or directory, or even in a local newspaper or magazine for a slightly higher advertising price. You can have your website and contact information on personalized stationary to use with all your transactions made while you are not on the Internet as well. By using business cards, letterheads and envelopes, you can advertise your website while paying a bill.

There is a huge variety of ways to advertise and to increase the traffic to your website. Regardless of the field of interest, there are people out there surfing the Internet that will be interested in what you have to offer them. Creating the website was only the first step, now you must find your audience; do not expect them to find you. You must help guide them to you through advertisements and relentless promotion.

Increasing Website Activity through Email Signatures

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Making sure your website has a steady amount of activity is one of the most important aspects to maintaining a successful website. Increasing website activity is one of the easiest ways you can make your site more popular as well as help your business if it is ran over your site.  By using specific tools, such as email signatures, you can passively increase your website’s activity with no extra effort required.  Even if you have been using email for years, you may not be aware that you can add signatures to your emails.  Email signatures consist of a few lines of text that are automatically added to the bottom of each email you send.  You can usually create these signatures using a       “preferences” tab on the email program you most often use.  After you create an email signature, each time you send an email, your email program will automatically add whatever you saved as your signature to the bottom of the email, without you needing to do anything.

Before you can enjoy the increase in website activity through email signatures, you will need to create an appropriate signature.  To do this, you should consider two things.  First, consider how much space your email program allows you for your signature.  This will be important, as you may need to condense your content to fit the program you use.  Secondly, and most importantly, you need to think about what you want to say with your signature.  If you are running a business it is probably best to use your name, the business name, address, phone number, and website address.  This is a very professional and passive way to promote your website.  If you have a more casual website, you may want to include your name, the website link, and a nice quote or two that you find inspiring, entertaining, or relevant to your website.  Think about the overall feel of your website and try to keep your signature in the same tone of writing.

There are a few “rules” in creating an email signature to help website activity.  The first rule is to keep your signature limited to four lines or less.  If you create long signatures, it is likely the reader will completely tune out and not remember anything in your signature.  There is also that possibility that they will not even read it because it “looks too long”.  This can occur frequently.  Keep in mind that most people use email because it is easy to use as well as fast.  Therefore, they will not be prompted to read areas of email that are long because they will feel they take up too much time.   Another rule is to make sure your email signature is appropriate for all ages, genders, and ethnicities.  The last thing you want to do is offend someone with your signature because this will not attract website activity, but deter it.

After you successfully create your signature, be sure to save it in your email program so that it is added each time you email someone.  You may have to “check” a specific box in your “preferences” to get to this point.  You can check to make sure it is working correctly by sending yourself an email.  Your signature should show up exactly how others will view it on the email.  After everything is working properly, all you need to do is send emails like normal.  The more emails you send, the more often your website link will be viewed.  When you send emails that are forwarded by the recipient, your signature will be viewed even more than expected.  The chain of email is a complicated one with many viewers, so you will likely get viewers that you don’t expect, which is great for your website.  The more the link is viewed, the more traffic you will have on your website.

Increasing website traffic through email signatures is one of the most effortless and passive ways of advertising.  You will probably even forget that you are advertising because you don’t need to do anything to do so after the initial setup phase.  Email signatures are a great tool that cost nothing and can deliver results.  Those who don’t use them are often those that have no idea how to use them.  By learning to set up your own email signature you can immediately begin seeing an increase in traffic to your website.

Maximize Your Exposure; Write Articles that Refer to Your Website

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Most serious businesses already have their website up and running, whether they have a small store location or strictly sell their products or services online. Nowadays, having a website is almost a requirement. Once you have your website, the world is not going to know you exist; you must promote your website yourself. After all, you put in all that time and effort into starting up a website, not to mention the cost, now it is up to you to make sure it all pays off. Not only do you have to steer the traffic to your website, but you also have to turn those visitors into customers. You have to have something to offer them to convert visitors into customers, and to keep them coming back. Customers can always generate more business through word of mouth and act as your own personal marketers.

One key way to keep the customers, and potential customers, coming back is to write your own articles that refer to your website for maximum exposure. There are many free websites where you can write and post articles about your website and what your website can do for others. First, if you are not an experienced writer, take the time to learn how to write articles. Collecting a few tips never hurts. If you do not have the time, but have the extra finances, you can choose to hire a writer or business to write the articles and post them for you. Although this is most convenient, it may prove to be quite costly in the end.

Here are some tips on how you can maximize your exposure by writing articles referring to your website:

1. Choose a particular product, service, or update on which you want to write an article. Keep all articles between 75 and 1200 words. Write in layman terms and avoid all the long technical and scientific mumbo jumbo. Keep the sentences short and to the point. Keep the paragraphs short and limited to one topic. You do not want to start writing about how great your peas are in one paragraph and start in on your great carrots in the same paragraph. If you are selling vegetables and want to write about your vegetables, give the peas and carrots there own paragraph.

2. It is important to upload new material. It does not take long for an article to go stale. You want to keep useful and original information coming on a regular basis. You have to prove to your customers that you are still there running and active website. If you wrote your last article in October of 2004, then your website would appear to be unreliable or abandoned. Keep your customers and all of your potential customers up-to-date and provide them with free information that they would not be able to find anywhere else.

3. Think of how your new article will benefit your customers. Try to write some “how-to” articles.  Many people are most interested in how-to articles. Helping your customers find out how they would benefit from your article will earn you the respect and trust you deserve and from which you can profit. Trustworthy businesses generate loyal customers.

4. If you choose not to write an article, you can delve into articles, tips, testimonials or book excerpts written by other people on websites and e-zines and copy and paste them to your site. Keep in mind that you must have the writer’s or website owner’s permission to do so beforehand. Although this is not something to do on a regular basis, it can be nice filler for your website. Always be sure to choose the articles with the content relating to your website.

It is your job to write something your customers want to read and keep them coming back for more. Updating your website on a regular basis is a great way to let your customers know that you are there. By tending to your website on a regular basis, you let them know you have not abandoned your post. You can also keep your customers returning to your site by offering monthly specials. Try offering attractive incentives such as Free Shipping Month, Free Gift Month, Discount Month, or Buy One Get One Free Month. It is up to you to offer your customers incentives to return to your website.

Meta Tag; You’re it! How to Use Meta Tags Effectively

Monday, May 30th, 2011

There are a number of online urban legends that suggest Meta tags and the use of them are dead and no longer necessary to build effective web pages. Many people believe that search engines are too smart to look for Meta tags. This, however, is completely untrue. Search engines have gotten smarter, but Meta tags are as important as ever. Search engines now compare the words in the title, the keywords, and the description of the article to help users find the best possible search engine results. Meta tags are vital to good search engine results.

For those new to the term, Meta tags are parts of HTML coding on websites that are used by search engines, like Google, Yahoo, and MSN, to index a website. Most Meta-tags are put in the header code of a website. There are a number of different possible Meta tags including the abstract Meta tag, the author Meta tag, the copyright Meta tag, the description Meta tag, the distribution Meta tag, the expires Meta tag, the keyword Meta tag, the language Meta tag, the refresh Meta tag, the revisit Meta tag, and the robots Meta tag. The most important and most popular Meta tags are the title, description, and keywords Meta tags. Different search engines offer different rules about how the Meta tags are used formatted, and how many characters they are allowed to contain.

Most search engines will use varying combinations of your Meta tags, so it is important to be patient with the entire process. The title tag should be both the name of your company and some keywords. Some search engines make use of the title as the link for your own website. That means if you don’t include a title, customers won’t see one. They might see something like “no title.” Few people would click on a site without a title. Having keywords with your title will help to improve your search engine rankings. Since research shows that most people only deal with the first ten results any search engine sends them, having a better ranking can only be good for your business. It is also important to remember that many places list sites in alphabetical order. Typically these sites give symbols preference over letters. That means that, “#1 Dog Information and Product Site” would come before, “The Best Dog Site on the Internet”. There are many things to consider with Meta tags though, and there are many things to learn, so don’t take a piece of information like that and focus only on it.

The description Meta tag is a good place to repeat the keywords you’ve used in your title Meta tag and add a few key phrases while you’re at it. You not only want something that will catch the attention of a search engine, but you also need something that will be understandable for human eyes. Some search engines will use this Meta tag to describe your site to searchers, but if your tag is just garbage to catch the search engine eye, chances are good that users may not be inclined to click on a poor description.

In order to benefit the most from your Meta tag usage, follow these tips. First, use various internet keyword tools to find the best keywords for your website. Many different sites offer a keyword tool, and some of them are business oriented for pay per click advertising, but many of them are free. It is important to note, though, that these tools can be inaccurate, so you should pay careful attention and be sure that you use more than one tool to help you find the right keywords to include in your Meta tags. Second, be sure to submit manually to the entire available major search engines. Some companies have created software to help you do this quickly and more efficiently, and if technology is not really your cup of tea, this may help you out. Finally, be sure that both your content and all of your pages make use of the keywords you have included in your Meta tags. Remember that search engines are smarter than they used to be. If you have put keywords in your Meta tags that do not reflect your site content, your ranking is unlikely to be as high, and customers can be just as unlikely to click on your site.

Effective use of Meta tags can really improve your website traffic. This can only mean good things are in store for you and your business.

Offer Free Downloadable E-books and See Increased Website Traffic

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

It is common knowledge that everyone loves to get something for free.  People are often seen stuffing hundreds of forms into contest ballot boxes, sometimes filling them out for hours at a time.  It is unreal what people will do for a freebie.  The same is true with your website.  If you are trying to target more traffic and increase your website production, then you should certainly consider adding free downloads to your site.  Downloads are extremely popular with web users today, especially when they are free.  With many sites charging outrageous prices for the smallest download, a freebie is always welcomed.  By offering free downloads, you will see that your website traffic will increase and those who use your site will keep coming back.  It is a great thing to do and can be extremely inexpensive as well.

When choosing which downloads to include on your site, you will probably find that downloadable e-books are among the easiest to work with.  E-books are partial or complete books on different subjects.  You can even write the content yourself if you wish.  Sometimes you can find e-books that are already written and are available for anyone to use on their site.  If you want to offer something fresh and interesting however, you should only use original material that has never been published on the web before.  This will allow your site to be new and exciting to web users.

After deciding to use e-books as your free downloadable gift to your visitors, you will need to choose the subjects you want to work with.  You can stick with one basic theme for your site if you wish.  If you already have a website that is about dolls, then you may want to only include free downloadable e-books that pertain to the subject of dolls.  This will allow those who come to your site initially to get more than what they expected, which is a great thing.  They will likely bookmark your site and keep coming back for more information and free downloads.  They may even tell their friends about the site as well.

If you are creating a site that consists of nothing but e-books, then you probably want to use e-books in a wide variety of subjects.  You can group them within your site by topic or theme to make it look organized.  If this is your plan, you might also want to hire professional writers to help you with this task.  If your site will be nothing but e-books, you will probably find the writing to be a bit overwhelming to tackle alone.  You can hire freelance writers to help you with this task, which will help you create strong writing content as well as help take the stress load off of you.

When using only one or two e-books on your existing site, be sure to offer a new e-book as often as possible.  You may be able to change the e-books each week or maybe change them monthly.  By offering something new to visitors however, they will be likely to come back to see if anything is new quite often.  You can even make an “announcement” on your site telling visitors when a new e-book will be available.  This will give them an idea of when to expect it and help them stay motivated to come back to your site.  If you want, you can also allow visitors to sign up for emails that will notify them when a new e-book is available.  This will guarantee they won’t forget.

Whether you write the downloadable e-books yourself or hire a professional to help you, you will certainly see increased website traffic.  When you are offering a web user something for free, such as a downloadable e-book, you are making them feel appreciated and warm.  You are telling them that you are inviting them into your site, not specifically to take their money, but to help them gain information as well.  This is a great way to build a good reputation and a devoted group of website visitors.  So, go ahead and start planning your e-books today.  The sooner you get them posted on your site, the sooner you will see that increase in website traffic.

Search Engine Optimization; The Basics of Boosting Website Traffic

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Search engine optimization is vital if you want to get your website listed at the top of the search engine rankings. You will have to design and write your pages not only for the customer, but also for the search engine spiders and crawlers. It does not have to be hard and it does not have to make you pull your hair out in frustration. By following a few tips on how to go about writing your pages, you will find success with your website.

One of the first mistakes that most people make when designing a website is that they think about the entire website. Do not concentrate on the entire site. Instead, create your landing page with only that page in mind. The rest of the design will come later. Next, narrow down your list of keywords to keyword phrases. Make sure they are highly targeted keyword phrases. For example, if you sell motor oil your keyword phrase would be motor oil and not just oil. Remember that people, when searching for your website in the search engines, will search for general phrases, and not just keywords. A good place to get keyword phrase ideas is https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal . There are many there, so be sure to check it out.

After you have chosen your phrase to use, put it into a search engine and see what comes up. This is an honest way to check out your competition and to get a real look at how your keywords work. You might find that your keywords are highly popular, and you will need to rework your phrases. Targeting a keyword that is not highly sought after could lead you to keyword phrases in niche markets. Fortunes have been built of niche markets in the Internet community.

Next you’ll want to look at your meta tags. The tags are html code that lists the different words in relation to your product on the web page. Search engines look mainly for descriptive tags that tell the engine and visitor what the website is about. If there is no tag, it will use other ways to search for information, like in a cached page of the directories. When setting up your keyword phrase, include it twice, and make it a clickable title tag too. You’ll need to describe your information for your page with the keywords. Be creative in the description. Search engines like versatility up to a point. One important aspect that you will need to use is not only your Meta keyword phrases, but a few sub keywords that are relevant to your site. Do not overuse keyword phrases because will hurt you with certain engines – your site will actually be penalized, and drop in the search engine rankings. Make sure you use a header tag. Certain search engines use these tags heavily for rating the value of your site. When writing your page, use your main keyword phrase or phrases right off the bat. A good inclusion would be twice in the first paragraph. Any other types of information about your site should include your keyword-targeted phrase as well.

Do not think that that is all you will have to do though. You will have to get others to notice your web site. Continue using your keyword phrase or phrases in any text on the page. For instance, if you have a blog set up on your site; use the keyword phrase in your Meta tag about the web blog. You may have to submit your web page to the search engines. Sometimes the engines don’t pick up a site with the spiders and crawlers. In fact, you might have to redesign your site with new Meta tags, and targeted keyword phrases and sub keywords. Don’t rush to do it though. First, find out if the search engines pick up your page. Usually only 2 – 3 weeks will suffice to see if it’s happened. If not re-do your site words so you can climb to at least the first two pages of any search engine.

The key is to remain patient and to follow the ever changing rules of SEO search engine optimization. It will take time and developing your confidence about your skills. In the end, you will be glad that you have learned the valuable technique, and you will go on to build improved sites that are finely tuned.
